Some positions may require that the applicant be a student of San Diego State University or University of California San Diego, or be eligible for work study credit. Youth Camp Counselor

Job Description: Work at the beach this summer as a member of our highly motivated camp team! Counselors are responsible for all aspects of camp operations including but not limited to: safety, sport instruction, supervision, camp setup and breakdown, promotions, and special events. We have a high standard and reputation to live up to as well as an excellent safety record. We are seeking hardworking, qualified individuals to join our camp family, and continue to provide a fun safe camp environment for all. Mission Bay Youth Watersports Camp is a co-op between the Mission Bay Aquatic Center SDSU/UCSD and the Peninsula Family YMCA.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess experience working with children ages 6-17 and should have skills in at least one of the following areas: Wakeboarding, Waterskiing, Surfing, Kayaking, Sailing, Windsurfing, Rowing, or Marine Science. Must possess or be willing to attain CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications. Must be available to work June through August. Bilingual skills are highly desirable.

Office Assistant/ Receptionist

Job Description: Responsible for performing general receptionist and clerical duties. She/he is expected to courteously receive customers, answer telephones, and provide clerical assistance as needed. She/he will take class registrations and operate a cash register. The Office Assistant/Receptionist must maintain a spirit of courtesy and service at all times.
Qualifications:

Must be a San Diego State University or University of California San Diego student carrying six units per semester as a regularly enrolled student. General clerical and receptionist experience is preferred as well as light typing experience. Must enjoy working with the public and have strong organizational skills and, ability to maintain an organization in a busy customer-oriented office. Must have or attain current CPR, First Aid. Valid driver's license and social security card are also required. Mission Bay Aquatic Center is a work-study eligible facility.

Surfing Instructor

Job Description: Instruct, supervise and keep records for a variety of recreational and university credit surfing classes as well as summer youth camp opportunities. Typical classes involve the supervision of 5 to 25 students or campers from beginning to advanced skill levels. Preparation includes lesson planning, equipment inspection and set up. Instruction occurs both on land and on the water and includes lectures, demonstration and skill practice.
Qualifications: Qualified applicants should have a minimum three years surfing experience. Must be comfortable swimming in the surf zone. Must be able to relate well with people and be interested in developing the skills of others. Should be available during the summer months. Must have or attain CPR and First Aid. Priority hiring goes to SDSU and UCSD students.

Kayaking Instructor

Job Description: Kayaking Instructors will have the opportunity to instruct and supervise a variety of recreational, college, and youth classes. Typical classes involve the supervision of 5 to 25 students or campers from beginning to advanced skill levels. These classes range from short to long instructional tours, La Jolla Coves, moonlight paddles, and surf kayaking. Preparation includes lesson planning, equipment inspection and set up. Instruction occurs both on land and on the water and includes lectures, demonstration and skill practice.
Qualifications:

Qualified applicants should have a minimum two years kayaking experience, or have assisted in the MBAC kayaking program. Teaching skills, either formal or informal are helpful. Must be able to relate well with people and be interested in developing the skills of others. Should be available during weekends and summer months. Must have or attain CPR and First Aid. Priority hiring goes to SDSU and UCSD students.

Rowing Instructor

Job Description: Rowing instructors will teach sweep rowing and/or sculling to students with varying levels of experience. Instruction occurs both on land and on the water, and typical class size is between 3 and 10 students. Instructors are expected to: inspect equipment before and after class, explain and demonstrate proper rowing technique, supervise and ensure the safety of students, keep records of attendance, and direct the students in cleanup.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a minimum of two years rowing experience, and some experience as a coxswain is desired, but not absolutely necessary. Candidates should have good interpersonal skills and a desire to help others improve their rowing abilities. Any kind of teaching experience is helpful. Applicants should be available to work during the summer months. Must possess or be willing to attain CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications.

Typical classes involve the supervision of 5 to 25 students or campers from beginning to advanced skill levels. Preparation includes lesson planning, equipment inspection and set up. Instruction occurs both on land and on the water and includes lectures, demonstration and skill practice.
Qualifications: Qualified applicants should have a minimum two years sailing experience, or have assisted in the MBAC sailing program, preferably in boats that students will be using: Sabots, Lasers, Hobie 16's, Holder 14's and J/24's. Teaching skills, either formal or informal are helpful. Must be able to relate well with people and be interested in developing the skills of others. Should be available during the summer months. Must have or attain CPR and First Aid. Priority hiring goes to SDSU and UCSD students.
