La Jolla Arts and Food Festival Provides Watersports Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities

Enjoy Weekend-long Entertainment Featuring Eve Selis And The Mar Dels

LA JOLLA, CALIF. (May 21, 2008) ­ The 22nd Annual La Jolla Festival of the Arts is just around the corner and the variety of entertainment is sure to perk up your eyes and ears. Voted the #1 art show in San Diego County and ranked as one of the top art festivals in the nation, the La Jolla Festival of the Arts is a one-of-a-kind event sure to delight the entire family.

The Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29, from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the University of California San Diego's East Campus, located at Genesee Avenue and Regents Road. Admission is $10 for adults and children 12 and under will be admitted free. There is free parking and only service dogs are allowed.

Since 1983, the Torrey Pines Kiwanis Foundation has used proceeds from the annual Festival to donate more than $1,500,000 to programs for San Diegans with physical and mental disabilities. Some of these programs include adaptive ski and water sports programs, wheelchair tennis and road racing programs, injured soldiers program and more.

The Festival will once again feature works of art by artists from across the country, and be highlighted with a concert including San Diego's Eve Selis. New to the Festival this year will be an author book signing presented by Warwick's, sensational chalk art and an exotic car display that will please the most discerning eye, as well as an environmental fair.

This year's Festival features performances Eve Selis, Fred Benedetti, The Jazz Ensemble of San Diego, the Mar Dels and Harriet Berholtz.

The Festival is pleased to welcome back Eve Selis, who has an artistic style that transforms country, R&B, blues, folk and rock & roll into music that speaks to all. Her Americana style is likened to that of Melissa Etheridge and Joan Osborne and she has shared the stage with noted artists such as Crosby Stills & Nash, Hootie & the Blowfish and the Counting Crows.

Fred Benedetti began playing the guitar at age nine and has been amazing audiences with his classical and contemporary music ever since.  He has performed for notable public figures such as the King and Queen of Malaysia, Mikhail Gorbachev and President Jimmy Carter.

The Festival highly anticipates the addition of The Jazz Ensemble of San Diego to this year's Festival. Director Vince Greco began his relationship with music at the age of three. By 13, he was studying with Frede Grofe and conducting with Pierre Monteux of the San Francisco Symphony. His CD's "The Piano", "Piano II 2007" and "Piano III 2007" all feature his students and The Jazz Ensemble.

Joining the lineup this year is San Diego favorite, the Mar Dels. Performing vibrant renditions of swing, rock and Motown hits from the 40¹s through the 90¹s, the Mar Dels are known not only for their music, but also their ability to get the crowd going. The band delights through harmonious vocals and dazzling costumes. It is sure to be an unforgettable experience that will keep you on your feet.

Festival newcomer Harriet Berholtz has been performing onstage since the age of five in theatre productions, singing competitions, festivals, chorus and jazz. Her sound is a country pop with a blues undertone.
