KC Rea has been a surfing instructor at the MBAC for the past 6 months. She is a sophomore at San Diego Sate University studying Kinesiology. Prior to working at the MBAC she taught surfing lessons for Rip Curl in Santa Monica . KC grew up in the surf culture of Santa Monica recently made famous in the movie Lords of Dogtown . Her father taught her to surf when she turned 12 years old and they enjoyed surfing Malibu and El Porto beach together. She was on the surf team in high school, as well as competed in swimming and water polo. She is a self-proclaimed health and fitness nut and hopes to become a sports trainer.
What do you love about surfing? I enjoy the connection to nature that surfing provides. Being out there with the water and ocean can be a very peaceful, relaxing activity. It's also a very individual sport where you can paddle out and spend some time alone with your thoughts. |
